According to our estimations, CGI PlC will initially be creating more than 150 permanent jobs, including locally trained growers while in full production. In Lesotho's rural economy, one employed member of the family supports as many as ten people in the extended household.
The Supporting of a large staffing compliment in a remote, undeveloped part of the country offers up numerous business opportunities for entrepreneurs and service providers alike. These include supplying vegetables, agricultural products, the provision of meals, (CGI Plc has committed to paying salaries adequate enough for any employee in their bracket to be well paid and able to buy all their needs for meals from the local community) housing, transport, maintenance, education and training.
CGI PlC commissioned surveys of the closest villages, to determine the social profile of the village. This information will be used as a baseline dataset for poverty alleviation strategies, prioritising the developmental initiatives and initiate to recruit employees from the community.
Having now employed all the available people who can speak English, CGI Plc is recruiting one Sesotho teachers to give language lessons to the non Sesotho speaking staff. We have also recruited two English teachers in order to teach English to villagers with a view to enabling more residents to gain employment.The project will have to employ people from outside the immediate area. These recruits will require accommodation in the local community. We are in proces of initiating a housing project to find accommodation for employees close to the immediate area.
A master village development plan will be prepared with our growth, followed by facilitating the existing residents with the building of quality accommodation units on their premises.
CGI Plc will approve rent deduction from staff who are accommodated on this basis and assist in the local resident developers securing mortgage finance for these accommodation units. Securing land leases and building quality accommodation units the land owners are likely, for the first time, to experience economic emancipation and provide the potential to escape the clutches of poverty.
CGI Plc wishes to safeguard against any negative social and health consequences that an influx of people may have on the local community.
We are in process of recruiting a qualified person to monitor this situation and provide community neccessary advise on the health services in the village. A qualified doctor will be recruited to provide services to our staff as well as the comunity at large.
We aim to be philanthropic by sponsoring bursary students to studying medicine primarily with the National University of Lesotho.
The project’s communication needs will exceed the capacity of the local telecommunications infrastructure. In negotiating with service providers, the Company has insisted that infrastructure provision will be expanded to meet the community’s needs and provide free internet services to at least two local schools near by.
CGI Plc will, via the Local Community Association (“LCA”), help to capacitate the local police to serve the needs of our imediate growing community which will be increasing their disposable incomes.
In addition, CGI Plc will support the LCA to support the police at national level with the provision of vehicles and equipment to be used by the Narcotics and Diamond Division of the Lesotho Mounted Police.
